Successful ride for Rays of Hope

HURLINGHAM – The pair tackled the 97km distance with a tandem to help raise funds for the non-profit organisation Rays of Hope.

Local residents Lucky Ledwaba and Ian Anderson took on the 947 Ride Joburg cycle race all in the name of raising hope.

The pair tackled the 97km distance with a tandem to help raise funds for the Hurlingham-based non-profit organisation Rays of Hope.

The Rays of Hope foundation has spent the last 30 years doing extensive work in the Alexandra community, enabling individuals and families to improve all aspects of their lives.

According to the organisation’s Tracey Peppler, averaging at 29.7km/h, the unlikely pair completed the race in three hours and 16 minutes with big smiles on their faces.

“The day of the race dawned with near perfect cycling weather and the pair on their tandem started just after 07:00. With a powerhouse on the back, they seemingly flew from the start to Kyalami Race Track, pulling dozens of cyclists in their slipstream down the highway.”

Anderson added that the unusual siting of the pair got them a lot of extra attention, a perfect example of ‘young and old South Africans working together’.
