SANDTON – Two employees at the Sandton SPCA sustain serious injuries after four armed robbers attacked in the early hours of November 23.

It has been confirmed by the SPCA general manager, Meg Wilson, that two employees were attacked at the Sandton SPCA situated in Marlboro around 08:05 by four armed robbers. The employees who were targeted sustained serious injuries to the ribs, arm and finger. In an attempt to steal a ring, one of the robbers allegedly attempted to bite off a finger from one of the employees.

Both employees are currently recovering from the robbery. Bramley Police were contacted for comment, the story will be updated once further information becomes available. Sandton SPCA announced that the facility will be closed to the public for the duration of the day.

Their statement also read, “We are grateful that our animals are completely unharmed. All our staff are receiving counselling … We will need to beef up security, and this will come at a cost.” “If you are able to make a contribution (big or small – every cent helps) towards our Security Fund.”
