Director from Craighall awaits his curtain call

CRAIGHALL – The director who has been a Craighall resident for more than three years is currently working with National Children's Theatre in Parktown in hopes of showcasing his love and passion to the masses.

Craighall resident, Ivor Jones, has never been a stranger to the spotlight.

His newfound love for directing musical plays came at a time where he was skeptical of the position. Now directing is all that Jones talks about.

A professional dancer for the majority of his life, Jones took a huge leap of faith as he ventured into a new role to become a musical director.

“A friend of mine contacted me and asked if I wanted to direct Peter Rabbit and Me and initially thought to myself, no. I had a wrong mindset of the challenges that I would face. I built enough courage to venture to the new profession. My first show was a huge success, it ran for six weeks,” said Jones.

Jones added that he would be nowhere if it weren’t for his team, “Nobody works alone in life, it’s always about support and your team. I thrive off everyone’s input and knowledge.”

Jones’ latest project, A year with Frog and Toad, focuses on the power of friendship centred on a message to the children.

“I like to do a message for the young kids, it’s a message of how friendship works. You can be irritated or annoyed with your friend but love should always be on top. The other message that we touched on was bullying. Bullying is a big problem in schools at the moment. To sum it up, friendship is more important than bullying.”

The cast members of the play include Devon Flemmer, Game Bovana, Robyn Evans, Rene Setlhako and Katlego Nche.
