Art lessons in Sandton encourages early childhood development within NPO

STRATHAVON – The idea of the collaboration was initiated by the preschool which is located in Sandton. Hearts of Hope is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that raises funds to provide children with essential resources and tools to ensure growth.

Collaborations between two entities are usually drawn by a similar cause or driving force.

For Little Ashford Sandton and the Hearts of Hope organisation, their driving force for the event on October 19 was to start an art programme targeted at the early childhood development within communities that lack the resources.

The idea of the collaboration was initiated by the preschool which is located in Sandton. Hearts of Hope is an non-profit organisation (NPO) that raises funds to provide children with essential resources and tools to ensure growth.

“We provide a safe home for 43 children at any one time, giving them an opportunity for medical and therapeutic care and education. Where possible, children are reunited with extended family, alternatively, adopted into new forever families. Little Ashford approached the organisation and offered to share their resources and environment with the children from the Hearts of Hope,” said the CEO of Hearts of Hope, Deborah van Dongen.

Principal of Little Ashford Sandton Corné Logan said, “This week we have seen the Spirit of Ubuntu in action! Sharing our Matisse-inspired art room with the little ones, teachers and team members from Hearts of Hope has been a remarkable and humbling experience. We have been reminded of our incredible capacity to not only inspire but effectively bring about change, for the greater good of our community and its precious children. A preschool art student today, a famous artist tomorrow.”
