A slice of Paris in Bryanston

BRYANSTON – “It’s a pink vision filled with good food, loads of desserts, pastries and a French feel like no other.”

This local pastry chef hopes to bring a slice of Parisian chic to Bryanston.

Meet Sibusiso Gamede, the owner of the little patisserie with its pink walls, and black and white floors, tucked away at the top of Hobart Grove Shopping Centre.

Raised in Lonehill, Gamede is no stranger to the pastry world.

Looking to open his own shop in 2019, he approached the infamous The Patisserie in Illovo and took over their branch in Rosebank last year.

When Covid-19 and its ever-extending lockdowns hit, it created a number of operational challenges but Gamede remained determined. In May this year, he moved out of Rosebank and in June, secured a smaller spot at Hobart Grove Shopping Centre.

“It’s a pink vision filled with good food, loads of desserts, pastries and a French feel like no other,” he added.

According to the 23-year-old, it has been an emotional journey filled with ups, downs and lockdowns.

“At times I feel like jumping off the rooftops! I barely get any sleep, I’m always buzzing around and yet, I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world,” he said.

When asked if he is proud of what he has managed to achieve at such a young age, Gamede’s response is typical and always the same, “I haven’t had the time to sit back and think about it, it’s just go, go, and go.”
