Bramley police make arrests in Sandton

SANDTON – Bramley Police would like to encourage community members to continue to provide the police with crime-related information.

Bramley police have recently made a number of arrests in and around the Sandton area.

In an incident on October 15 near Sandton CDB, a team of the Crime Prevention Unit arrested a suspect following an alleged hijacking and kidnapping.

It was alleged that the complainant was driving home with his wife when they were stopped at the intersection of the Grayston Drive off-ramp and the De Villiers Graaff Highway (M1).

According to Bramley Police Station spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi, a white Toyota Quantum pulled up alongside the complainant’s vehicle and three armed men got out and approached the vehicle.

It was alleged that the complainant’s wife was forced into the Quantum by some of the suspects, who drove off her with her towards the Sandton CBD.

“The other suspect allegedly got into the victim’s vehicle… but his luck ran out when a police patrol van attached to Bramley Crime Prevention Unit stopped at the robot.”

Officers were informed by motorists who witnessed the incident and the 30-year-old suspect was arrested.

Mogodi added that the victim’s wife was allegedly dropped of somewhere in Sandton CBD not long after the incident. She received assistance in notifying the police

While the suspect is scheduled to appear in court soon, officers remain on the lookout for the remaining suspects.

In another incident in Marlboro on October 17, another team of the Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 45-year-old suspect for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to Mogodi, officers acted on information received about the suspect in question.

“The members arrived at the given address where the suspect was indeed found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition – he failed to produce the licence to possess such a firearm.”

The suspect was arrested and detained at the police station.

Bramley Police would like to encourage community members to continue to provide the police with crime-related information.
