E-Joburg portal will make it easier for ratepayers

JOBURG – The launched kicked off with the smart online bill management service for residential customers, government, companies and managing agents.

In an effort to improve access to municipal customer services, the City of Johannesburg has launched its e-Joburg portal on October 6.

The portal, introduced by Executive Mayor Mpho Moerane and MMC of Finance Matshidiso Mfikoe, is set to deliver municipal services in a more convenient way for customers, and reduce the time and manual work load on the City’s resources.

“The e-Joburg is part of our long-term Growth and Development Strategy, the GDS 2040, to become a smart city in how we deliver services to the people of Johannesburg in line with global standards for local governments,” said Moerane.

According to Mfikoe, who has been monitoring the portal development closely, more services are being introduced in phases.

The launched kicked off with the smart online bill management service for residential customers, government, companies and managing agents.

“This is the first phase that allows customers to receive, manage and pay their municipal accounts from the comfort of their homes or office, no more standing in long queues.

“The portal is set to not only improve service delivery, but to also boost revenue collection while lowering administrative costs,” she said.

The second phase is set to add an electronic water/electricity meter reading function which will allow ratepayers to electronically capture their water and electricity readings that will be used to create their bills.
