Crawford International Sandton’s Chisomo Boshoma recently held the South African flag high at the African Youth Chess Championships.
The 14-year-old represented Team South Africa at the prestigious international chess tournament in Ghana where she took home a bronze medal for her third-place finish.
“I felt truly blessed to have a beautiful talent in such a tough tournament,” said Chisomo.
The chess prodigy discovered her passion for the meticulous game at the age of six. It has not only taught her more about life but it has helped her think more critically when making important decisions.
“Just like in life, every decision you make has a consequence, so is chess. On the chessboard, every move changes the game.
“Most importantly, just like in life, in chess sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but at the end of the day, there is always something positive you can take away from each game.”
The young chess player was also awarded a Woman Candidate Master title, which she will receive once she has reached the required chess rating. “This gives me hope and the determination to push even harder in my chess career because my goal is in close reach – to become first [in rank] and be the African chess champion,” said Chisomo.
