Local golf coach scoops up national honour

WOODMEAD – Byron Nel’s passion for golf and helping people is why he has remained committed to the sport over the years.

Local golf coach Byron Nel was recently honoured at the National Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) awards.

After receiving the Grow Golf Award for the Gauteng Central region in August, Nel was awarded the National Grow Golf Award by the annual PGA awards ceremony.

The awards evening highlighted all the good work that so many PGA professionals do in various sectors within the golfing community.

According to Nel, winning this year’s national award was not only a great personal achievement but a testament to his 10-year journey that he has had as a PGA professional. “To be acknowledged and recognised by your peers for the hard work, dedication, and contributions that you make to the game of golf and the future of golf is incredibly humbling and is a true honour and privilege.”

Nel’s passion for golf and helping people is why he has remained committed to the sport over the years. “This award only strives to make me hungrier and drives me more to keep being a positive influence in people’s lives and living the PGA of South Africa’s slogan of ‘touching lives through the game of golf’.”

Nel currently coaches junior golfers at the Country Club of Johannesburg and the surrounding areas.
