Boot it or lose it campaign battles criminals targeting drivers

WOODMEAD – The purpose is to sensitise the community and visitors of Sandton that they take care of their properties and be vigilant at all times when driving in the area, says Captain Bheki Xulu of Sandton Police Station.

Sandton South African Police Service (SAPS) launched its new campaign, ‘Boot it or lose it’, on September 22 to prevent theft of properties in vehicles.

The campaign, Boot it or lose it, ensures the safety of drivers through weekly inspections by police officers around various areas such as Woodmead and Sandton. The campaign also educates the public on how to avoid theft of personal properties within their vehicles.

Boot it or lose it encourages residents situated around Sandton to avoid parking in isolated areas, to physically check if car doors are locked when going out, to put personal items in boots and to never fully open the window when communicating with strangers on the road.

“The purpose is to sensitise the community and visitors of Sandton that they take care of their properties and be vigilant at all times when driving in the area. Personal items like cellular phones, laptops, firearm, iPads, bags, laundry or any other valuable items must be not left in the car exposed,” says Captain Bheki Xulu of Sandton PoliceStation.

Station Commander Brigadier Egen Moodley requests the community to report criminal activities in Sandton to CRIMESTOP on 08600 10111 or Sandton SAPS on 011 722 4200.
