Michael Mount Grade 8 students perform The Tempest by William Shakespeare

PARKMORE – Grade 8B class teacher, Terri Pearman says the play is not done for the performance value thereof, but for the unique growth and development of each learner.

Michael Mount‘s Grade 8B learners performed their rendition of The Tempest by William Shakespeare on September 9 and 10.

The class has been preparing for the rendition of the play since the beginning of the term. The youngsters had a lot of support from their parents and class teacher as well as their art, music and drama teachers who assisted with the set and directing.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the crowd attendance during the performance was limited.

The Grade 8 play is a remarkable and important phase for learners when undergoing their transition from primary school to high school as it helps learners develop their confidence, personality and skills. Grade 8B class teacher, Terri Pearman said, “We don’t do the Grade 8 play for the performance value, but rather for the unique growth and development of each student.

“Having gone through this process with my class, I have been able to observe first-hand how this experience has enriched each student in a completely different way. Working together on this play is something that they will never forget. It is a memory that they share as a group, and something that will live in them forever.”
