Planting trees of hope

SANDTON – The annual National Arbor Week awareness campaign calls on communities to plant indigenous trees as a practical and symbolic gesture of sustainable environmental management.

Hyde Park Corner celebrated the power of community this National Arbor Week (September 6 to 12) with Rays of Hope.

The shopping centre donated 12 Acacia ‘fever trees’ to the non-profit organisation on September 7.

Rays of Hope has worked in the Alexandra township for over 29 years. With the help of its eight community-based programmes, the organisation is able to impact the lives of thousands of people each year.

“We are so grateful for the trees that were planted around our offices. These trees help increase our security around our offices,” said the organisation’s Trish Lockwood.
