SANDTON – The South Africa Depression and Anxiety Group has launched a new mental health support group for women living with menopause.

Following the end of Women’s Month the South Africa Depression and Anxiety Group would like to encourage women to prioritise their mental health.

The mental health and wellness group has launched a new mental health support group for women living with menopause.

This free support group will take place online every second Tuesday of the month.

According to support group leader Wendy Landau, the group aims to offer a place of comfort, support and mutual understanding for women living with menopause.

“If a woman is feeling alone, that she cannot confide in anybody and she wants to meet women who are dealing with similar challenges and to get encouragement and inspiration that she can cope with menopause, this is the support group for them.”

She added that menopause can cause mental health issues that are ‘bewildering and worrisome’. “Your moods can change quickly and vary greatly, from laughing to crying within minutes.

“In addition, midlife is a time when women sometimes face multiple sources of stress, including caring for children, dealing with ageing parents, and navigating life changes, all of which may contribute to the incidence of depression and anxiety at this age.”
