Ward councillors expect a rise in registration from young adults

SANDTON – “It is very important for members to know which areas they are supposed to register before going out to register,” says Ward 104 councilor, Mike Wood.

IEC registration is approaching within a matter of days.

Political parties are gearing up to get votes, but with the presence of the pandemic, how will it turn out?

What is likely to happen in this year’s registration for The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC)? Ward 104 councillor, Mike Wood, who represents The Democratic Alliance (DA), expects an increase of IEC registration this year, especially from first-time voters.

Wood said, “First-time voters will increase in this year’s registration and all the previous voters will most likely go out and vote. Numbers will definitely increase this year.”

The councillor added the importance of knowing where an individual should register and how they can do so. “It is very important for members to know which areas they are supposed to register at. How one can know which areas they are supposed to register at, is to SMS their ID number to 32810 or by simply going to the IEC website and type in their physical address. The website will assist in pinpointing the location to register at. It is very important for individuals to register and place their votes,” Wood explained.

Ward 105 councillor, Albert Tefo Raphadu, who is a member of The African National Congress (ANC), is hoping that more young adults register. “Currently we still have more middle-aged people voting. We are hoping that more young adults register for this year’s election as it is in their rights,” Raphadu said.

The main expectation from people in various political parties is a rise within the participation of young adults in this year’s IEC registration.

If you are over 18 years of age and are a South African citizen, reserve time to make a change by registering.
