Local celebs set to take the plunge for a good cause

BRYANSTON – Due to Covid-19 regulations, the plunge will be live-streamed on the Special Olympics South Africa social media platforms.

It is just under a month to go until some of your favourite local celebrities take on the fifth annual Special Olympics South Africa (Sosa) Polar Plunge.

The event is aimed at raising funds to send the Sosa national team to the Special World Winter Games in Russia in January next year.

“The Polar Plunge has become a signature annual event for Special Olympics South Africa and we are overwhelmed by the support that we continue to receive from the participating celebrities, the media and our corporate partners,” said Special Olympics SA CEO Ancilla Smith.

Last year over R80 000 was raised and went to food parcels for the Special Olympics athletes and their families that have been left destitute during the lockdown.

Smith added that apart from raising funds, the Polar Plunge also showcases the country’s inclusivity and acceptance of people living with an intellectual disability.

“Coming in on the heels of the Olympic Games and the upcoming Paralympic Games, this year’s plunge will invite support for our third Olympic national team, the Special Olympics South Africa National Team.

“They deserve the same recognition and support as they prepare to travel to Russia in 2022 to represent South Africa on a global stage,” Smith concluded.

Due to Covid-19 regulations, the plunge will be live-streamed on the Special Olympics South Africa social media platforms.

Plungers will be staggered in order to adhere to restrictions and a number of plungers who will not be able to attend will be plunging remotely.
