Private vaccination sites welcome unregistered and uninsured walk-ins

SANDTON – Any eligible person will be assisted and vaccinated regardless of whether they are insured or not.

All private sector vaccination sites across South Africa will be accepting walk-ins from anyone currently eligible for vaccinations, cohorts aged 35 and older.

This was according to Business for South Africa (B4SA), which is coordinating the private sector’s partnership with the government on the national vaccination programme. In a statement on August 16, the organisation confirmed that any eligible person will be assisted and vaccinated regardless if they are uninsured or unregistered.

Stavros Nicoloau, chair of the health workgroup for B4SA said that it was concerned that many people believed that only those with medical aid could visit a private vaccination site, which is incorrect.

“All sites will deliver the same service, for free, to anyone who needs a vaccine. “We encourage all citizens above the age of 35, whether registered or not, insured or not, to visit a vaccine site closest to them to receive their life-saving vaccination.”

Nicoloau added that while sites will prioritise those with scheduled appointments and those over the age of 60, no person over the age of 35 is required to pre-register before visiting a vaccination site.

“Private sites are ensuring that staff is equipped and ready to assist people to register once they arrive,” he said. These sites include both independent community pharmacies and corporate pharmacy chains such as Clicks and Dis-Chem, and private hospitals and medical scheme vaccination sites.
