Learners at St Vincent prepare for life after school
MELROSE – Topics included how to handle a job interview, drafting a winning CV and more about accessing university for students with disabilities.
Learners in Grade 11 and 12 at the St Vincent School for the Deaf in Melrose benefitted from a work readiness event on August 3.
The event, which complied with Covid-19 protocols, allowed learners to discover from industry experts how to prepare for life beyond school. Topics included how to handle a job interview, drafting a winning CV and more about accessing university for students with disabilities.
Event sponsor Boikgantsho Consulting and Events Institute (BCEI) discussed opportunities for future applicants seeking work.
Finance manager at BCEI Mxolisi Nkutha recounted when his aunt attended St Vincent School for the Deaf and he would visit her on weekends. Mxolisi said, “My aunt matriculated in 1999 and went on to go to college. After qualifying, she went on to work in big name companies. It just shows that with a disability, you can do anything. In terms of careers, there are many different opportunities. Absolutely anyone can make it!
