Sandton ‘tigers’ ready to pounce

SANDTON – Going into the season ahead, the club remains very excited as it will be implementing more senior teams and a stronger structure for its junior team.

Sandton ‘Tigers’ Cricket Club prepares to dominate the new season with a new mind-set and a new name.

Previously known to the community as the ‘Rebels’, the club recently went into a long-term partnership with social cricket team, the Eastern Tigers.

According to Sandton Cricket Club chairman Jeremy Meiring the Eastern Tigers play friendly tournaments and matches to raise awareness for wildlife conversation and the protection of endangered animals.

“The tiger is sadly amongst the endangered, so too the lion and rhino. We thought it would be fitting to team up with them in this plight.”

He added that the tiger symbolises strength in unity, power, dedication and discipline – qualities which the club encourages within its community.

The addition of the tiger streaks to the Sandton Cricket Club’s logo represents grit, determination and a will to survive and succeed.

“We will play with the fearlessness of the tiger and try to emulate the beauty of this wonderful animal in our approach towards the game,” said Meiring.

Going into the season ahead, the club remains very excited as it will be implementing more senior teams and a stronger structure for its junior team. No less than eight teams will ‘roar’ on the pitch every Saturday and Sunday.

“On the field we just want our players to learn, enjoy and be the best they can be at all times – make new friends and grow the cricketing network in our lovely province.”

Meiring added that the club will also be embarking on an aggressive fundraising drive throughout the season to seek commercial partnerships with businesses to help aid the growth of the club as well as its development programme.

“We will also have the second edition of our annual Smash and Bash 6s Tournament to raise funds for our junior development programme. This season we intend to make it bigger and better, with the wildlife conservation cause also to be part of the project – we intend to bring more local businesses on board.”

Any businesses looking to get involved with the club or cricket enthusiasts looking to join the Sandton ‘Tigers’ Cricket Club are encouraged to contact Jeremy Meiring on 062 257 5818.
