Redhill learners represent SA in Olympiad

MORNINGSIDE – Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Geography Olympiad will be hosted online.

Learners of Redhill School hope to go all the way on the international stage.

Abigail Davies, Armand van der Colf, Sven Surjoodeen and Azhar Cassim will represent South Africa in the virtual International iGeo Olympiad, hosted by Turkey, in August.

The four learners powered through the first round of the geography Olympiad to be one of three schools in the second round.

The second round saw team Redhill claim victory after they defeated both St Mary’s School for Girls and Edenglen High School. The learners now have the honour of representing their country in the international tournament.

Redhill School executive head Joseph Gerassi expressed immense pride for the learners, wishing them well at the iGeo Olympiad.

“Not only have these four students done themselves, their families and their school proud, but they also have the amazing opportunity to represent their country next month.

“Redhill learners continue to show grit and determination in the midst of a global pandemic, where they find opportunities to challenge themselves and excel despite the many limitations they face. To say that we are proud of them is an understatement,” said Gerassi.
