Reach For A Dream makes history

ILLOVO – Participants purchased their Cooking For Dreams food box and followed along across various online platforms.

The atmosphere roared with victory as Reach For A Dream made it into the Guinness World Record books.

The foundation was joined by musician J’Something, celebrity chef David Higgs and almost 2 000 other South Africans on June 24 where it broke the world record title for the most people cooking simultaneously online.

According to CEO Julia Sotirianakos, the world record attempt formed part of Reach For A Dream’s Cooking For Dreams fundraising initiative for the foundation.

“The Cooking For Dreams event was wonderful and it was inspiring to see so many South Africans come together in support of our dream children and for the exciting moment to break a Guinness World Record,” she said.

Participants purchased their Cooking For Dreams food boxed and followed along across various online platforms as the My Kitchen Rules SA judges led the large group through a recipe for a delicious ‘easy-peasy pea curry’.

“We dreamt about doing this and not only have we realised our dream but we have helped Reach For A Dream realise so many more dreams for our children – I am beaming with pride right now,” said J’Something.

Higgs added that it was an absolute highlight to see so many people come together and get involved.

“Reach for a Dream is an incredible cause and sometimes we think we are going through hard times, especially during this pandemic, but imagine what it’s like for young children with life-threatening diseases. A lot needs to sink in, but it’s been a very special day,” said Higgs.

Sotirianakos noted that the event would not be possible without the Cooking For Dreams event partners who were notably instrumental in making this event a great success.

“We honestly couldn’t have done it without our partners, Discovery Vitality, DHL and Woolworths. Our broadcast partners Eventcast and Peermont gave their all to get the production underway, which was incredible,” said Sotirianakos.
