Run your city

JOBURG – Virtual run series to bring some joy during the lockdown, again.

The virtual run series that was such a hit during lockdown last year, is back.

The Run Your City (RYC) series, which featured a number of Friday 5K Solo Runs across the country in 2020, has some new ideas for 2021.

In support of the Plastic Free July global movement, the series is challenging runners to complete the Plastic Free 5K on 3 July.

“We encourage the RYC Community to say no to single-use plastic by stepping up and committing to making a few small, easily attainable changes,” said Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports and founder of the series.

“Celebrate your pledge and shared love for the environment with thousands of runners by taking part in the Plastic Free 5K. Runners choose their own safe location and route, and have from 5am to 9pm to complete their run. The run needs to be recorded using a smartphone or smartwatch.”

Running shoes to the value of R4 000 are available as prizes, and to stand a chance to win, these runners must share photos of themselves on the RYC Series Running Club page on the Strava app.

“Be sure to include the hashtags #RunYourCity, #RunClean and #RunPuma. To make an added difference, we would like to ask runners to collect any plastic that they may see on their run. Help keep your city clean,” concluded Meyer.

To join the run, sign up on the Strava app.
