The driver of a staff transport bus lost control of his vehicle on River Road, Bryanston at about 4.48am on 30 July, resulting in the vehicle slamming into a tree.
Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911 said one adult male sustained moderate injuries and was treated on scene by an advanced life support paramedic.
Herbst said Netcare 911 rescue technicians used hydraulic tools to free the driver from the wreck.
“Once extricated and stabilised, the patient was transported to a hospital for further care,” added Herbst.
Ian Tumiel of the Bryanston East Community Forum said the driver was travelling along River Road and went over the road and down an embankment before colliding with a tree.
“If he missed the tree, he would have gone into the river,” added Tumiel.
Tumiel said this was the second taxi-related accident in the suburb in the past few months.
In April, Tumiel said a taxi went through a yield sign at the traffic circle on Bryanston Drive, ending up in the middle island garden after the vehicle’s brakes failed.
“Fortunately, no one was injured in that incident,” said Tumiel.
The Chronicle has contacted Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar for comment on this incident.
The Chronicle will update the story as soon as new information is made available.
