It’s a strike for the Bryanston Scouts

BRYANSTON – Last year 106 Meerkat teams (ages five and six), 228 Cub teams (ages seven to 10) and 260 Scout teams (ages 11 to 18) entered.

It was an evening of fun and laughter at the bowling alley for members of the 1st Bryanston Scout Group.

The group of almost 100 Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts and their parents took over the Northcliff Bowling Alley at Northcliff Corner Shopping Centre for an entire evening.

The worldwide Jambowlree event encouraged members of the scouts’ moment to get out and have fun together all while adhering to the Covid-19 regulations.

Teams then submitted their scores onto a virtual leader board. The event opened in April this year and groups have until December to register their participation and submit their scores.

Although the event initially started in 2013, the 1st Bryanston Scout Group only participated in the last three years.

According to one of the event organisers, Silvia Ludwig, one of the great things about Scouting is being part of something bigger.

“We are all part of a worldwide family, and activities like Jambowlree reminds you of the reach and impact that Scouting has on the world today,” she said.

Last year 106 Meerkat teams (ages five and six), 228 Cub teams (ages seven to 10) and 260 Scout teams (ages 11 to 18) entered.

“Some 66 teams of adult leaders also participated. The founder of the Scout Movement, Robert Baden-Powell, once said ‘look wide, then look wider’ – proof that scouting has global appeal,” said Ludwig.
