Successful open day for Region E

SANDTON – Customers are also given the opportunity to apply for City programmes such as pensioner rebates, extended social packages as well as the recently launched improved debt rehabilitation programme.

The City of Johannesburg has reported a successful open day for Region E.

The open day, scheduled on 12 June, saw dozens of ratepayers take up the opportunity at the customer service centre in Sandton to get some face-to-face time with City officials to resolve some of their account queries.

According to MMC of Finance Jolidee Matongo open days are important because it allows officials to engage meaningfully with residents with regard to their billing inquiries in line with the City’s customer-centric mandate.

“[It allows the City] to be responsive to other challenges our customers faced in the past months since Covid-19 lockdown.”

Matongo added that through billing open days, residents are able to resolve long-standing and new queries raised with the City.

“Open days brings together all City departments and entities within the revenue value chain which enables resolution of technical and non-technical queries which would otherwise take up to 90 days to resolve,” he said.

Customers are also given the opportunity to apply for City programmes such as pensioner rebates, extended social packages as well as the recently launched improved debt rehabilitation programme.

“Through the regional open days, the City has managed to reduce long-outstanding queries to below 4 000 out of the 1.1-million bills generated and sent customers monthly,” Matongo concluded.
