City to host open day for Region E

SANDTON – The open day aims to provide residents with the opportunity to interact with the City on issues pertaining to their municipal accounts.

The City of Johannesburg is set to host an open day for all ratepayers in Region E on 12 June.

The open day aims to provide residents with the opportunity to interact with the City on issues pertaining to their municipal accounts, including the improved debt rehabilitation programme which is aimed at providing amnesty to indebted ratepayers.

Residents can visit the Sandton Customer Service Centre at 137 Daisy Street, Sandown, between 8am and 3.15pm.

Customers coming to apply for the debt rehabilitation programme must bring along the following necessary documentation:

  • Valid South African identity document
  • Latest copy of their municipal account
  • Proof of income for the account holder and spouse
  • Three months certified bank statements
  • For deceased estates: a letter of authority from the master of the court’s office
  • Meter numbers, meter readings and pictures of the metering devices
  • For small businesses, places of worship and non-profit organisations: audited financial statements and six months’ bank statements
  • The market value of the property and all properties owned by the applicant must not exceed R1.5 million (excludes businesses, churches and non-profit organisations)

Only the account holder may apply for the rehabilitation programme.

The City of Johannesburg’s finance department will also host a series of virtual meetings aimed at educating ratepayers on how the rehabilitation programme works.

The next meeting for the Alexandra and surround areas is set to take place on 23 June from 6pm to 8pm.
