Awarding men who make a difference

SANDTON – While dozens of nominations were sent in, only 25 men were selected for the award.

Honouring everyday men who are doing extraordinary things in the community.

This was according to Men of Valour Award founder Farzana Mayet at the annual ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton on 29 May.

The award ceremony honoured 25 men for the hard work and commitment they have given in their respective fields and communities. Among the recipients were Smile Foundation CEO Hedley Lewis, Hirsch’s Home Appliance Store founder Allan Hirsch, eNCA news anchor Shahan Ramkissoon and orthopaedic surgeon Dr Naadir Bismilla.

“The Men of Valour Awards were incepted in 2018 and has awarded numerous men who have excelled in the specific fields or has done extraordinary things in the community,” said Mayet.

While dozens of nominations were sent in and only 25 men were selected, Mayet hopes that this will not discourage other aspiring men from entering but rather encourage them to be inspiring men of valour and do better in their respective fields and their communities.

Lewis added that his journey to becoming the CEO of The Smile Foundation was only about one thing: the university of life.

“It is about the acknowledgement and understanding that leadership is about surrounding yourself with the right people. With the right people comes the right directions so I think that it is only fitting that the first person that I surround myself with each day is my wife,” Lewis said when he accepted his award.
