Join Marist schools’ virtual run

SANDTON – Participants are also invited to make a donation to accompany their entry fee which will go towards the St David’s Champagnat Day Fund.

Nothing can stop the St David’s Marist Inanda school spirit.

The Sandton-based school has united with its fellow Marist community, Sacred Heart College and Marist Brothers Linmeyer in Johannesburg, St Henry’s Marist College in Durban and St Joseph’s Marist College in Cape Town, to kick off the Team Marist Champagnat Day virtual run.

The first of its kind, the ‘run’ which kicked off on Champagnat Day on 6 June requires participants to complete a 4km virtual run, walk, cycle or round of golf before 20 June.

According to the school’s Carey Fisher-Gietzman, this was the distance that St Marcellin Champagnat, founder of the Marist Brothers teaching order, walked each day between Hermitage and La Valla-en-Gier where his first school was situated.

The entry fee is R50 and participants may complete multiple distances of 4km for their entry.

Participants are also invited to make a donation to accompany their entry fee which will go towards the St David’s Champagnat Day Fund.

“One-fifth of each school’s funds raised will go to either Marist Mercy Care [in the Eastern Cape] or to the Three2Six Programme at Sacred Heart College. All participants will receive a virtual Team Marist medal upon completion of their event, at the end of the two weeks.

“We invite our St David’s community, and all members of our Marist schools’ communities, to join us – pupils, parents, staff, alumni – wherever you are in the world,” said Fisher-Gietzman.
