Local non-profit organisation hosts charity auction to raise funds

FOURWAYS – McGinley said the aim of the auction was to provide young volunteers from different local schools with auctioning skills while raising funds for the organisation.

In their quest to raise funds and provide skills development to young volunteers, Daily Bread non-profit organisation hosted a charity auction on 29 May to help local youngsters get a basic understanding of how to conduct an auction business.

Locals came out in their numbers to support the organisation that feeds more than 1 400 hungry people every week in different informal settlements and townships in Region A and Region E.

Founder and chairperson of Daily Bread, Charmaine McGinley said the aim of the auction was to provide young volunteers from different local schools with auctioning experience while raising funds for the organisation.

“As a board of Daily Bread non-profit organisation, we have decided to broaden the scope of our community services. Our organisation now provides skills development to our beneficiaries and volunteers. We want to teach people how to make a living and provide for their families. Today, we hosted an auction to teach our young volunteers from Crawford International College Lonehill and Fourways High School how to auction goods. We auctioned different goods donated by our sponsors in order to raise funds to pay rent and take care of other needs,” she said.

McGinley said the organisation managed to raise R1 500 at the auction and thanked local business and individual donors for their continuous support of the organisation.

“The local business community has been generous to us and they’ve been always willing to lend a helping hand to us over the years. Last year, when things were difficult, our supporters stood with us and we’ve managed to feed thousands of people who receive our help every week. At today’s auction, we managed to raise the amount of R1 500 that help us cover other costs. ,” McGinley said.
