Graduate chef an international star

FERNDALE – After graduating locally, pastry chef earns international stardom.

The Swiss Hotel School is celebrating the success of its graduate Kevin Miller, who is now competing on the TV show The Great British Bake Off – The Professionals.

Miller graduated from the hotel school in Ferndale in 2004 and although he studied hospitality management initially, he has developed a love and passion for cooking, especially pastry.

This has led to international success.

The Great British Bake Off – The Professionals is the ultimate battle where 12 pairs of passionate professional pastry chefs compete to be crowned the UK’s best.

Over the course of 10 hour-long episodes, the series follows the trials and tribulations of the competitors as they attempt to prove their baking prowess.

Each week the chefs tackle a different skill, which becomes progressively more difficult as the competition unfolds. The series started in the UK on 25 May.

After graduating, Miller found his calling as a pastry chef and worked in South Africa for various hotels and lodges.

He also had the privilege of working as a chocolatier for one of the best chocolate companies, Lindt and Sprungli.

This provided him with a great opportunity to express his creativity. In 2014 he left to work in Michelin-star restaurants in the UK.

“I am grateful to The Swiss Hotel School and its staff members for giving me the initial foundation of knowledge and passion for the industry,” Miller said.

“This has helped me over the years and inspired me to reach my dreams.”

Kevin and his bake-off colleague, Maria-Vittoria are representing London’s five-star hotel The Lanesborough, which proudly sits on Hyde Park Corner.
