The City of Johannesburg has opened its non-medical sites to support Phase 2 of the Covid-19 vaccination roll-out programme.
With effect on 26 May, seven sites will be available to administer vaccinations. According to MMC for Health and Social Development Eunice Mgcina, the City aims to vaccinate about 67 per cent of its 5.4-million residents over the next year or two.
“The current Phase 2 mass vaccination roll-out programme prioritises persons who are 60 years and older as they are more vulnerable to serious illness, hospitalisation and death in the event they contract Covid-19.”
The non-medical sites open from 26 May are as follows:
- Ennerdale Ext 9 Community Centre, Ennerdale
- Marlboro Sport Complex, Malboro Gardens
- Kanana Community Hall, Rabie Ridge, Midrand
- Diepkloof Community Hall, Diepkloof, Soweto
- Naledi Community Hall, Naledi, Soweto
- Atrek Stadium (Sport Complex Alexandra, Eastbank), Alexandra
- Yeoville Recreation Centre, Yeoville
- The Danie Van Zyl Recreational Centre in Randburg will open on 28 May.
Mgcina encouraged all residents to first register on the national electronic vaccination data system (EVDS) with their ID or passport numbers to ensure a speedy vaccination process.
Residents could only visit the vaccination sites after they received an SMS advising them to do so.
“As the City of Joburg, we are excited to have partnered with the provincial government to deliver these much-needed vaccines to help us fight the surge of Covid-19. We urge residents to register for the programme on the EVDS platform or any health facility in the city,” Mgcina concluded.
