‘All hell ensued’ for Parkmore author

SANDTON – Mosilo Mothepu shares her first-hand account after witnessing state capture on an industrial scale through state sponsored looting of some of the country’s state-owned enterprises.

Former Trillian Financial Advisory CEO turned whistle-blower Mosilo Mothepu found herself at the centre of a state capture scandal.

Mothepu recently sat down with radio and television presenter Bongani Bingwa at her book launch at Exclusive Books Sandton City.

In her latest book Uncaptured: The true account of the Nenegate/Trillian whistleblower Mothepu shared her first-hand account after witnessing state capture on an industrial scale through state-sponsored looting of some of the country’s state-owned enterprises.

“I decided to resign and assist the [then] Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s in her ‘state of capture’ report in exposing Trillian Financial Advisory’s and Regiment Capital’s role in the machinery of corruption and state capture,” said the Parkmore author.

She added that when her statement to Madonsela was leaked to the Sunday Times ‘all hell ensued’ as her character was assassinated. Mothepu was labeled a liar, fraudster, thief, disgruntled employee and so much more by her fellow colleagues and superiors.

“It was all so devastating and I was left to fight a corrupt system and government alone, I received very little assistance from South Africans, civil society or corporate as I was unemployed for two years [as] most who fight and expose corruption are labelled ‘lepers’, unemployable, and ‘impimpi’ spies,” she said.

While reliving her story and reliving this dark time in her life did impact her mental health, Mothepu believed that it was her duty to share such an important and impactful story.

“My story is to inspire, empower and embolden others in speaking truth to power. People should not be afraid to walk the narrow road less travelled because of fear – believe in your cause because South Africa needs [everyone] to fight for it.”

She concluded, “I have met amazing people who have [stood by] my patriotism and have assisted me greatly; they restored my faith in humanity. I am finally rebuilding my life and wanted to write about my patriotism that was met by betrayal, persecution, but my faith in God sustained me and shown me the strength and resilience of the human spirit.”
