Alleged drug dealer arrested in Sandton

SANDTON – Police found 2.4kg of suspected ephedrine and 1.3kg of crystal meth with an estimated street value of R600 000.

A 44-year-old man is scheduled to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for charges of drug possession.

The suspect was found in possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R600 000 on 31 March in Sandton.

According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu, the Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit based in Germiston received intelligence regarding suspicious drug-related activities at a residential premise.

“[The] investigating team kept surveillance on the positively identified address and pounced on the suspect allegedly packing drugs. A search warrant was executed and police found 2.4kg of suspected ephedrine and 1.3kg of crystal meth with an estimated street value of R600 000 collectively.”

Mulamu added that the police also seized R100 000 in cash which was concealed in travel luggage.

The investigation remains ongoing.
