Brescia learners continue to support the cancer community

BRYANSTON – A number of teachers sprayed their hair in an array of colours while the event’s host DJ Flax from YFM also agreed to shave his hair.

Brescia House School continues to support the cancer network community.

The Bryanston-based school hosted its annual Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) Shavathon and CHOC Ribbonathon events on 19 March.

Cansa assists and supports anyone living with cancer while CHOC predominately focuses on children.

“These are two completely different, well-regarded non-profits offering very valuable services to members of the wider community in terms of support, care and counselling to individuals suffering from cancer, as well as support to their families,” said the school’s Helga Bishop.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the event was recorded and live-streamed to every classroom so that the learners could watch and share their support virtually. Parents were also able to watch the events from home.

A number of teachers sprayed their hair in an array of colours while the event’s host DJ Flax from YFM also agreed to shave his hair.

Learners Caitlin Felton, Esha Parbhoo, Amalia Sequeira, Jemmah Killian, Ellen Jupp, Alexandra Tserkezis, Mackenzie Benade, Sohara Naidoo and Meegin van Wyk all agreed to have their hair either shaven or cut and donated to Cansa.

The rest of the school also used the opportunity to add something a little extra special to the event – many of the learners were sporting crazy socks in support of Down Syndrome Awareness Day which was commemorated on 21 March.
