Wild Lions from Benmore aim high

BENMORE – The internationally recognised service group hopes to continue devoting its efforts and fundraising in support of the community at large.

The Johannesburg Wild Lions Club looks forward to a year of milestones and community service.

The internationally recognised service group hopes to continue devoting its efforts and fundraising in support of the community at large. The club recently sold dozens of Christmas cakes in support of the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind, Meals on Wheels in Yeoville and the Frida Hartley Shelter.

According to president Mark Meltzer, the club is aiming to increase its fundraising projects this year. “We continuously get calls from vulnerable people requiring supplies of food hampers from around Johannesburg,” he said.

Various club members also have a number of personal milestones coming up. Not only will the club be inducting a new member but the club itself is also set to celebrate its 59th year of service.

Charter member Dr Les Cooper is also on track to celebrate his 100th birthday in September, making Cooper the oldest member of the Wild Lions Club in South Africa.

Meltzer added that the club would be continuing its Saturday morning collections outside of the Pick n Pay at Benmore shopping centre. “We thank the generous customers who contribute towards our food collections.”

Members of the community are encouraged to come through and show their support by donating food.
