Book an appointment to view animals up for adoption at the Sandton SPCA

All members of the public who would like to view animals at the SPCA should call to book an appointment in advance.

The Sandton SPCA has announced that members of the public who would like to view animals for the purpose of adoption must book an appointment in advance before arriving at their premises.

Acting general manager at the SPCA Nick Smith said the purpose of the booking system was to avoid any crowding in their reception area when people arrive.

He added that visitors were urged to call them in advance and secure a 30-minute booking slot. Visitors were also encouraged to view animal photos on the SPCA’s website (www.sandtonspca.org.za) or Facebook page and arrange to view specific animals of interest.

“Bookings must be made telephonically and screening, registration, mask-wearing, social distancing and sanitising will take place at the SPCA. This is to ensure the safety of staff and visitors,” said Smith.

At the time of speaking to the Chronicle, Smith was pleased to report that no further staff had tested positive for Covid-19 and they were working with a full staff complement.

“Our challenges at the moment are that we are seeing fewer adoptions but a higher intake of animals. Members of the public are encouraged to come through and consider adoption.”

Smith said fundraising drives have been hard-hit by the pandemic and encouraged community members to support their valuable work.
