A closer community for 2021

BUCCLEUCH– Well wishes from the Buccleuch Residents Association.

The year 2020 has been somewhat unusual for the residents of Buccleuch and the Buccleuch Residents and Ratepayers Association (BRA) as described by the association’s director, Lauren Nightingale.

The Covid-19 pandemic had residents come together all for the well-being of the suburb.

“We were incredibly lucky to have a great resident support structure – although it was small, they continued to contribute towards our RA, and this enabled us to employ two staff members who were able to get out and start cleaning as soon as the first lockdown restrictions were relaxed.”

She added that another highlight for the BRA was organising a number of clean-ups on the bridge, grass cutting and picking up litter fostering that community spirit. The suburb was also pro-active in working with the JMPD to apprehend a number of illegal dumpers throughout the year.

Going forward, the BRA would like to encourage more active community involvement and support. There will also be more organised clean-ups, especially at the Jukskei River.

“Our 2021 wish list is to have active service delivery from the City of Joburg entities, regular maintenance, and more involvement from our community. Buccleuch still feels a little like the forgotten suburb. It would be wonderful to have more interactive parks, a safe environment, a clean and tidy suburb, and welcoming entrances into Buccleuch,” said Nightingale.

She also mentioned the car that has been in the river for a while is also on her wish list to be removed resulting in a safer and happier community.

“We would like to thank all those who have volunteered time and or finances during the year and for assisting those in need.

May 2021 bring good and positive change.”
