Number 1: Put on your snowshoes: Chances of snow-like conditions to hit Jozi

The South African Weather Service predicted a slight chance of light snowfall in certain parts of Gauteng in June. Temperatures were expected to reach a low of 4°C and a high of 10°C.

 

Number 2: Brace for another cold front in Joburg

Residents were encouraged to think of the less fortunate during the increased number of cold fronts this winter. Temperatures were expected to reach a low of 0°C and a high of 14°C.

 

Number 3: Restaurants in Sandton stand together for Million Seats in The Streets protest

Restaurants protested together for the Million Seats in The Streets protest. Due to lockdown regulations, the industry was only allowed to reopen at a limited capacity in June.

 

Number 4: Yet another cold front expected to hit Joburg this weekend

Blistering cold weather overtook most of the winter season. According to the South African Weather Service in another cold front warning, residents were warned to expect temperatures of a low of 2°C and a high of 13°C in 11 July.

 

Number 5: Concerning number of vehicles on the road – Joburg Mayor

City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Geoff Makhubo noted that he was concerned about the high number of vehicles on the roads during a roadblock in Rivonia.

In an effort to clamp down on the movement of individuals within the city, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department conducted roadside checks by setting up daily roadblocks in various areas.
