The Toy Lady brings a little Christmas cheer

BRYANSTON – The beauty behind each toy lies in its unique story.

The ‘Toy Lady’, Erica Wolter brings a little Christmas cheer to the Bryanston Market.

Wolter began her journey at the market over 10 years ago in the hope of sharing her love for toys and Christmas with the community. “When I was a nursery school teacher I taught littlies and always loved toys. I have always believed in children using their imagination rather than just a device or watching television. I feel very strongly about that,” she said.

She always embraced her German background and began introducing a number of imported Christmas-themed pieces, pieces which have become quite popular at the annual Christmas Market during the holiday season. Wolter has also been handmaking door wreaths for almost 20 years now.

“I love a good European Christmas and especially because this year, due to Covid-19, all of the Christmas markets are cancelled across Europe so I have brought my own little Christmas market right here in Bryanston,” said Wolter.

The beauty behind each toy not only lies in the story but also the fact that it is extremely unique. Wolter only sells one of two items of the same piece to the market each year. “I have had a wonderful response from the community, each year many people come to my stall and pick up a few pieces for the children or gifts for others.”
