#TaxiStrike affects commuters on 18 November

JOBURG – Motorists are advised to avoid the N1 North, Soweto Highway, 14th Avenue and Beyers Naude offramps.

Many taxi commuters are left stranded this morning [18 November] due to a planned protest march to Pretoria’s Union Building.

According to a statement released on 16 November by Alexandra Taxi Association (ATA), operators of ATA and the Alexandra Randburg Midrand and Sandton Taxi Association (Armsta) are to deliver a memorandum of grievance to the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbabula and the Presidency on 18 November.

They said the protest is about the Covid-19 taxi relief fund for taxi drivers and operators. They have emphasised that no taxi should operate today.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) advises Joburg motorists to use alternative routes and to avoid the N1 North, Soweto Highway, 14th Avenue and Beyers Naude offramps.
