Sandton Saps nab multiple suspects

The complainant reported the matter to police who were patrolling around Morningside.

More than 20 people were arrested in Sandton for various crimes on the weekend of 30 October to 1 November.

Spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station, Captain Bheki Xulu said 23 suspects were brought to book following a focused and intelligence-driven operation.

Xulu added that on 31 October at 4.40pm, a complainant was busy on his iPhone when a man snatched his phone and ran away. The complainant reported the matter to police who were patrolling around Morningside.

“Police gave chase to the suspects according to the information received. Five male suspects between 27 and 30 years were nabbed for possession of suspected stolen cell phones including the one the complainant reported,” said Xulu.

In a separate incident, a complainant alleged that on 30 October at about 4pm, her manager booked a room at a Sandton hotel for them to catch up on the backlog at work.

“They worked and after some time, the manager acted inappropriately and the complainant addressed him telling him she does not like it. He forced himself on her and raped her.”

The complainant came to the Community Service Centre to report the suspect who was arrested immediately.

Xulu listed the following additional incidents for which suspects were arrested: Four men between 27 and 30 for possession of housebreaking implements, two men for reckless and negligent driving, one 37-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm, two people for theft, one for driving under the influence, two for fraud, three men for shoplifting, one man for negligence in the handling of a firearm, and one for bilking.
