One security officer was killed and another injured on the morning of 27 October following a shooting incident on the corner of Thora Crescent and Pretoria Man in Marlboro.
Confirming the incident, Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha said that the incident was the result of a chase by private security officers and a suspect who prior, attempted to enter an office building with a security vest on.
The suspect ran away after being asked where they got the uniform from.
“The reaction vehicle chased him until 1st Avenue where [the] suspect entered the houses and [the] two officers followed on foot,” said Mbatha.
Mbatha added that the suspect was cornered before producing a firearm, shooting the first officer in the chest while the second sustained minor injuries.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring confirmed that paramedics declared the first officer dead on the scene while the second officer was treated and transported to a nearby hospital.
Mbatha noted that the suspect was arrested on the scene.
