New Sandton Saps communications officer says his blood is blue

He comes equipped with a communication and public relations diploma as well as an honours degree in criminology.

The Sandton Police Station has welcomed a new corporate communications officer, Captain Bheki Xulu, from 1 October.

Xulu transferred positions with former Sandton police communications officer Captain Granville Meyer and is excited to work with the Sandton community to curb crime.

He began his career in the police in 2004 in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, and has since worked in Sea Point and Philippi East under the Nyanga Cluster.

He comes equipped with a communication and public relations diploma as well as an honours degree in criminology.

“I fell in love with the police culture of discipline. My blood is blue. I initially thought that the police were rude and just arrest people, but that’s not true. The police culture does not allow for brutality,” Xulu explained.

He said that he wanted to move to Johannesburg to be closer to his province of birth – KwaZulu-Natal.

“I look forward to meeting this community. I’m very skinny but everyone in the community can get a piece of me,” he chuckled.

“I want to make sure that service delivery is done properly. I am available 24/7 and my door is always open. We need to work together to curb crime. The public are encouraged to share ways to work together. Let’s eliminate crime to 0 per cent.”

Outside of work, Xulu is an endurance walker and father of two. He walks about 30kms every Saturday and enjoys the outdoors.

Xulu encouraged community members to still exercise caution, socially distance and sanitise to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

He recognises that lockdown has been a tough time for all community members, but warns that crime is not the answer.

“Have hope that wherever you are, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. If you reach out, there is always help available. The Victim Support Unit is available to anyone who needs assistance.”
