New Rea Vaya route connects Joburg CBD with Sandton and Alex

JOBURG – The route is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion next year.

As part of the City of Johannesburg’s drive this transport month, the departments of transport and development planning conducted an oversight tour of the new Rea Vaya Phase 1C route on 6 October.

The route will connect commuters from the Metro Centre in Braamfontein to Sandton and Alexandra through the Watt Interchange in Wynberg.

City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Geoff Makhubo was joined by MMC of Transport Nonhlanhla Helen Makhuba and MMC for Development Planning Lawrence Khoza.

According to  Makhubo, the Rea Vaya Phase 1C route along the Louis Botha Corridor of Freedom is a new route that will join Phase 1A (from Soweto the Joburg CBD through Auckland Park) and Phase 1B (through Cresta, Windsor West, Parktown and Yeoville).

The route is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed next year.

“The introduction of Phase 1C will bring safe, affordable and reliable transport to the residents of Berea, Yeoville, Orange Grove, Cheldondale, Norwood, Balfour Park, Bramley, Wynberg, Alexandra, Marlboro, Atholl, Sandton, Sandown, Longmeadow and Greenstone,” said Makhubo.
