True to this idea, learners from Brescia House School, Michael Mount Waldorf School, Crawford College Sandton, St Stithians College and Bryanston Primary embraced the many cultures that make up their student body.

Brescia House School in Bryanston chose to celebrate their learners and faculty. “We do not want any Brescia House School girl or staff to leave behind who they are when they enter the school gates, just to ‘fit in’,” said head of the secondary school Loredana Borello.

The learners and staff at Michael Mount Waldorf, Bryanston Primary and Crawford Sandton Pre-schools were encouraged to put their best foot forward and come to school dressed in their favourite and most colourful outfits that best depicted their rich heritage.

At Crawford, where there are many instances where the learners still partake in online learning, learners chose to share aspects of their heritage with the other children online. “Crawford Schools are renowned for their diversity of cultural and religious beliefs,” said Grade 0 teacher Lynne Dworetzky.

Over in Lyme Park, the St Stithians College family hosted a number of activities across its campus. At the boys preparatory, the boys spent the time watching a replay of Joel Stransky’s winning kick in the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

At the girls’ college, the learners hosted a series of panel discussions on the topic of heritage and cultural identity while the staff celebrated with a Heritage Day feast where each staff member brought a traditional dish to share.
