Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Wayne Minnaar confirmed that officers had to block off a section of the highway after 6pm.
“JMPD officers had to divert traffic to Modderfontein onramp as well as the M1,” said Minnaar.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) are expected to release an official statement soon.
This is a developing story.
