Hyde Park High welcomes new principal

The appointment follows the retirement of past principal Manolis Vogiatzis at the end of last year.

Hyde Park High School has finally filled its long-awaited principal position.

Without an official appointment since the beginning of the year, the school has announced the appointment of its new principal Melanie Kallie last month. The appointment follows the retirement of past principal Manolis Vogiatzis at the end of last year.

According to the school’s spokesperson, Avril Wright the school was capably guided through the Covid-19 turmoil by the school management team. “The teaching staff ran very successful online lessons and provided support packs to ensure that the school’s learners could remain on track for their return to formal face to face class lessons,” she said.

Kallie has always has a great passion for teaching as her mother was a teacher at the same primary school that she attended. “Every time I walked pass her class, I always saw a learner at her desk. I now realise that you cannot be an educator if you cannot love learners like your very own,” she said.

Most of Kallie’s career as an educator was spent in management and leadership roles. “[It] steered me in the direction to pursue my studies in the field of educational management and leadership. I am currently in a PhD programme specialising in educational leadership and management.”

What is in store for Hype Park High? Kallie hopes to create a school that remains a choice for the local community. She believes that will be made possible through building strong relationships with the community.

“In such turbulent times in our social and economic arenas, I hope we can produce learners that flourish in these competitive environments and are able to persevere though adversities. I would like to inspire all educational stakeholders at Hyde Park High school to feel inspired to maximise their potential.”
