He successfully opposed bail against him keeping him behind bars since his arrest in 2018.

The dedicated efforts of Detective Warrant Officer Nkhumeleni Mamilasigidi resulted in a murderer receiving a life sentence. McDonald Maonna (35) was sentenced in the Johannesburg High Court to life imprisonment for murder and robbery on 22 June.

“On 26 August 2018, the body of a woman was found in her house in Bryanston with multiple stab wounds and both her eyes removed,” said Captain Granville Meyer of the Sandton Police Station.

According to him, Mamilasigidi of the serious and violent section pursued every avenue to solve the case.

“He was led to Diepsloot where the suspect, who worked for the deceased was apprehended. He successfully opposed bail against him keeping him behind bars since his arrest in 2018.”

Meyer added that the perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment on a count of murder and 15 years on a count of robbery which will be served concurrently.

The sentence of the accused was welcomed by Sandton police and the investigation officer’s dedication to ensuring that justice was served was highly appreciated by the Gauteng police management.
