Police conducted a stop-and-search roadblock on 3 August in Woodmead which led to the arrest of three suspects who were in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Sandton Police Station spokesperson Captain Granville Meyer said the three were arrested following a stop-and-search roadblock conducted by the crime combatting unit in the area. “The suspects tried to make a U-turn when they approached the roadblock but to no avail. The police members acted swiftly and found the illegal firearm in the motor vehicle,” he said.
According to the police, upon further investigation, it was found that the motor vehicle had false number plates. The suspects are currently in detention and will appear in court once charged.
“We appeal to anyone who may have any information on crime to contact the SAPS on the Crime Stop number 08600 10111,” urged Meyer. “Information can also be communicated via the MySAPSApp, an app which can be easily downloaded via Play Store on any iPhone or Android handset.”
The police assure the public that all information will be treated with the strictest confidence and informers can remain anonymous.
