Domestic worker sentenced for house robbery

The suspect assisted burglars to gain entry into her employer's residence in Wendywood, Sandton.

The Alexandra Regional Court sentenced domestic worker Siphiwe Pugeni to seven years’ imprisonment for house robbery on 14 July.

According to Captain Granville Meyer of the Sandton Police station, the suspect, aged 35, assisted burglars to gain entry into her employer’s residence in Wendywood, Sandton on 29 June. Goods to the value of R1 million were stolen and the Pugeni received R12 000 for her role in the criminal act.

“The Sandton Trio Task Team conducted a preliminary investigation and it was discovered that the domestic worker assisted the robbers during the house robbery,” he said.

The perpetrators are still at large. The court praised the good work by Sandton detectives but would like to appeal to anyone who may have any information on the crime to contact the police on the Crime Stop number 08600 10111. Information can also be communicated via the MySAPSApp, an app that can be easily downloaded via Play Store on any iPhone or Android handset.

All information will be treated with the strictest of confidence and informers can remain anonymous.
