Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

The police members then spotted the taxi on Maxwell Drive and found the firearm in his possession.

Officers seized unlicensed firearms in the Sandton policing precinct on 3 July. Members attached to the Johannesburg Flying Squad arrested a 21-year-old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Buccleuch.

Spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station Captain Granville Meyer said, “The suspect was arrested following a tip-off from the community of a taxi driver with an illegal firearm. The police members then spotted the taxi on Maxwell Drive and found the firearm in his possession.”

The suspect appeared in the Alexandra Regional Court on 6 July.The Sandton Police Station would like to appeal to anyone who may have any information on crime to contact the police on the Crime Stop number 08600 10111. Information can also be communicated via the MySAPSApp, which can be downloaded via Play Store on any iPhone or Android handset. All information will be treated with the strictest confidence and informers may remain anonymous.
